Role: Data Engineer

Location: Blackburn, BB1 2FA

Job Type: Full Time - Permanent

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Bonus Scheme: Bonus Incentive

Company: EG On The Move

About the role:

As a Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and evolving EG On the Move’s Databricks-based Enterprise Data Platform, helping to shape a modern data environment built around Data Engineering and Lakehouse architecture. Working closely with senior engineers and architects, you’ll contribute to the development of scalable data platform capabilities, help establish and embed engineering standards, and play an important role in the migration of existing workloads from Azure Synapse to Databricks.

This is a hands-on engineering role, ideal for someone with strong Data Engineering experience who enjoys designing, developing and supporting modern data solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact while contributing to the continued development and maturity of EG On the Move’s wider Enterprise Data Platform.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and develop EG On The Move’s Databricks-based data platform, following Lakehouse and Medallion architecture principles.
  • Develop reusable Databricks frameworks and engineering patterns using Python, PySpark, SQL and Delta Lake, including metadata-driven ingestion and transformation patterns for APIs, databases, files and other enterprise data sources.
  • Design, build and maintain scalable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lake.
  • Lead the technical implementation of migrating existing Synapse data workloads to Databricks, refactoring legacy workloads into scalable and reusable solutions rather than relying on lift-and-shift approaches.
  • Implement and maintain Unity Catalog, data access patterns, compute, jobs and workspace standards, supporting secure and consistent platform practices.
  • Implement CI/CD and controlled deployments for Databricks workloads across Development, UAT and Production environments using Git, Azure DevOps and Databricks Asset Bundles.
  • Support platform reliability and production operations, including logging, monitoring, Data Quality, error handling, testing, troubleshooting and peer code reviews.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, BI teams, Software Engineers and Data Architects, while supporting and mentoring engineers in Databricks and Data Engineering best practices.
