About the role:

We are looking for a forward-thinking Head of AI Strategy & Innovation to shape and lead our AI vision, identifying opportunities to drive business value, enhance customer and colleague experiences, and improve operational efficiency.

Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders, you will develop and deliver our AI strategy, translating emerging technologies and business priorities into scalable solutions with measurable impact. You will lead AI initiatives from concept to implementation, champion innovation, and build the capabilities needed to support responsible AI adoption.

You will also establish robust governance to ensure AI is used ethically, securely and compliantly, positioning the organisation to unlock the full potential of AI and drive sustainable growth.

What you’ll do:

• Own and deliver the AI Strategy and Innovation roadmap, establishing a clear vision for how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies will support business growth, customer experience, productivity, and operational performance.
• Shape the AI and innovation agenda with the Executive Leadership Team, translating emerging technology trends, market developments, and business priorities into strategic opportunities, investment priorities, and actionable initiatives.
• Identify and prioritise high-value AI and Innovation opportunities, working with business leaders to understand strategic challenges, improve processes, and focus investment on initiatives with the greatest potential business impact.
• Own the AI and innovation portfolio and investment pipeline, ensuring initiatives are appropriately prioritised, funded, governed and aligned to business objectives, with clear accountability for outcomes and benefits realisation.
• Lead the delivery and scaling of AI and automation solutions, from discovery and experimentation through to production and adoption, ensuring successful solutions can be scaled across functions and embedded sustainably into the business.
• Establish the governance and responsible use of AI, ensuring appropriate controls are in place across data protection, security, regulatory compliance, model risk, human oversight, ethical considerations, and the use of generative AI.
• Build capability and adoption, developing the skills, leadership awareness, guidance, training, and ways of working required to enable colleagues to use AI effectively and responsibly and to support through changes to how work is performed.
• Champion innovation across the business, identifying new technologies, trends and industry developments that could create value, improve ways of working, or unlock future growth opportunities.
• Measure and demonstrate the value of AI and innovation investments through clear success metrics relating to productivity, revenue growth, customer outcomes, colleague experience, risk reduction and operational effectiveness.
• Lead and develop the AI Strategy & Innovation function, establishing the operating model, capabilities, partnerships and governance required to create a high-performing and future-focused team.
• Work collaboratively across Data, Technology, Digital, Product, Security, Legal, Risk and business functions to ensure AI and innovation initiatives are aligned to the wider corporate, technology and transformation agenda.
• Act as the senior subject matter expert and advocate for AI and Innovation, advising the Board and senior leadership on opportunities, risks, investment decisions, competitive developments, and the longer-term implications of AI for the organisation and its people.

What we are looking for:

• Relevant degree or professional qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
• Strong experience leading the adoption and implementation of AI and/or automation within an organisation.
• Demonstrable experience taking AI or innovation initiatives from concept through to production and business adoption.
• Experience developing and delivering AI or automation strategies and roadmaps.
• Strong practical knowledge of Generative AI and LLM technologies, including their opportunities, limitations, and risks.
• Demonstrable experience delivering measurable business value through AI or automation.
• Experience establishing or operating within appropriate AI governance and responsible AI frameworks.
• Proven ability to influence senior decision-makers and build support for new technology and ways of working.
• Experience leading teams and creating the capability required to support AI adoption at scale
