About the role:

As Legal Counsel (Real Estate), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the business’s property strategy by providing commercially focused, pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of real estate matters. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will take ownership of landlord and tenant transactions while also supporting Senior Legal Counsel on complex property projects, including conditional development and acquisition work.

This is a highly collaborative role where you will work closely with internal stakeholders and external advisers to drive transactions forward, manage risk, and enable informed commercial decision‑making. You will be expected to deliver high‑quality, timely legal solutions that align with business objectives, while contributing to the wider strategic success of the organisation.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and conduct comprehensive property due diligence, including reviewing title documentation and preparing detailed risk reports  

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of real estate agreements and transactional documents  

• Provide legal support on property-related corporate matters and transactions  

• Partner with internal stakeholders across multiple departments to gather instructions and deliver clear, commercially focused legal advice  

• Support the Utilities and EV teams with property-related legal matters, ensuring alignment with business objectives  

• Assisting senior legal counsel with development land acquisitions with a view to leading on the same under supervision.  

• Ensure all necessary internal approvals and legal requirements are satisfied prior to completion of real estate transactions  

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Land Registry procedures and SDLT requirements, applying this effectively to transactions  

• Where support is needed by the team assist with data protection matters, liaising closely with the external Data Protection Officer (DPO)  

• Supervise, manage, and coordinate external legal counsel to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery  

• Mentor and support junior team members, providing guidance and oversight on legal tasks and professional development

What we are looking for:

• Post-qualification experience is required 
• Strong experience in conducting property title due diligence and producing clear, detailed reports 
• Experience in handling of development land acquisitions  
• Proven track record of drafting and negotiating a broad range of real estate documents, including licences, agreements for lease, agreements for sale, transfers, leases, substation leases, and easements  
• Solid understanding of real estate transactions and associated legal processes
