About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal support across the business, with a particular emphasis on real estate and property matters. This is a key role responsible for overseeing complex transactions, delivering pragmatic legal advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations in line with business objectives.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, you will support a broad range of legal areas including corporate, commercial, and data protection. You will also play an important role in mentoring junior team members and driving best practice across the legal function, helping to strengthen and enhance the overall legal capability of the organisation.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and conduct comprehensive property due diligence, including reviewing title documentation and preparing detailed risk reports
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of real estate agreements and transactional documents
• Provide legal support on property-related corporate matters and transactions
• Partner with internal stakeholders across multiple departments to gather instructions and deliver clear, commercially focused legal advice
• Support the Utilities and EV teams with property-related legal matters, ensuring alignment with business objectives
• Managing development land acquisitions through to completion
• Ensure all necessary internal approvals and legal requirements are satisfied prior to completion of real estate transactions
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Land Registry procedures and SDLT requirements, applying this effectively to transactions
• Contribute to a broader range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, corporate issues, and litigation support
• Assist with data protection matters, liaising closely with the external Data Protection Officer (DPO)
• Supervise, manage, and coordinate external legal counsel to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery
• Mentor and support junior team members, providing guidance and oversight on legal tasks and professional development

What we are looking for:

• Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5–6 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE)
• Strong experience in conducting property title due diligence and producing clear, detailed reports
• Experience in handling of development land acquisitions
• Proven track record of drafting and negotiating a broad range of real estate documents, including licences, agreements for lease, agreements for sale, transfers, leases, substation leases, and easements
• Solid understanding of real estate transactions and associated legal processes
